I would love to be able to set our company's own branded theme as the default theme in team settings. This way it would be much easier for me to make sure my team members follow our company's communication guidelines and are always using our branded theme.

Hi Emelie! 
You can do that today if you go to the theme's list and then share that specific theme. After you have done that go to the team settings page and choose that theme in the default theme setting.
Let me know if it still does not work!
